Integrative Somatics and Breathwork

Somatic therapy operates under the belief that experiences become held in the body when not processed or integrated fully. This can often include emotions, memories, or sensations related to stressful situations. Somatic approaches place importance on what we experience in the mind and the body as well as the connection between the two. “Somatic” itself means “of or relating to the body.”
As a somatic therapist, Kathlyn helps an individual develop an awareness of their bodily sensations, behaviours and process experiences as they arise with the intent of rooting into themselves in an embodied, grounded way.

Integrative somatic therapy blends multiple modalities in the support of the clients intentions.

We work with movement, touch, body awareness, contemplation, inquiry, mindfulness, breathwork and somatic processing tools to cultivate meaningful relationship within ourselves and with others, renegotiate triggers or behaviours related to past experiences and improve overall wellness. This work can take place at one of my treatment spaces or online.

All work begins with an in depth consultation and foundation in regulation. As a trauma informed practitioner, Kathlyn adapt the pace of the work to suit the capacity of each client, in each moment.

Clients have reported benefits of this work to include: decreased pain or other physical symptoms, improved mood, improved sleep, lowered anxiety, improved body awareness, healthier relationship dynamics, improved stress management among others.

I am a Certified Athletic Therapist with additional training in somatic therapies, coaching and trauma informed care. My professional practice has been born out of my own experiences as a patient, athlete with various injuries and human moving through my own experiences.

Movement was my first love affair, which led me down a therapeutic path. From there I met the breath, the nervous system, bodywork and experienced what it means to be an impactful therapist from practitioners I met on the client side of the table, as well as experiences I have had as a practitioner. I have spent time as a personal trainer, medical equipment salesperson, first responder, group movement instructor and coach, athletic therapist, breathworker, mentor, somatic therapist, energy worker, performance coach and embodiment coach.

I seem to call in the “complex” cases and work often with chronic illnesses, chronic pain, diagnosis’ such as fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, PTSD/C-PTSD, EDS, anxiety/depression, IBS, auto-immune based presentations, and many more undiagnosed chronic or complex symptoms.

My practice has always been focused on education, seeing the whole person amidst all the parts and supporting my clients in enhancing their relationship to themselves amidst the chaos of life.
